Apple is reportedly developing a smart doorbell camera integrating its Face ID technology, marking a significant expansion into the smart home ecosystem.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device will debut by late 2025, offering enhanced convenience and security.

The rumoured doorbell camera will utilize Apple’s Secure Enclave chip to ensure biometric data is processed securely.

This technology, already familiar to iPhone users, would enable seamless automatic unlocking for recognized individuals. The device could redefine home access control by prioritising security and user convenience.

Apple plans to incorporate its “Proxima” Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combination chip, expected to launch in future HomePod Mini and Apple TV updates. This chip aims to provide reliable connectivity essential for modern smart home devices.

The doorbell camera is anticipated to support third-party HomeKit-compatible smart locks, expanding the functionality of Apple’s existing smart home ecosystem.

Apple is also exploring collaborations with smart lock manufacturers to deliver a unified solution. These efforts align with the company’s strategy to create cohesive and user-friendly smart home experiences.

Apple’s move into smart home security directly competes with established players like Amazon’s Ring and Google Nest.

By leveraging its reputation for privacy and ecosystem integration, Apple could offer a secure alternative to existing options. This differentiation may attract users to prioritise data protection alongside functionality.

The doorbell camera is part of Apple’s broader vision for smart home innovation. Rumoured projects include advanced smart home cameras, Apple-branded TVs, and new smart displays.

Among these is a wall-mounted, iPad-like device and another featuring a robotic arm for dynamic use cases.

Apple’s development pipeline also includes an AI-powered smart hub with FaceTime capabilities and future iterations of Apple TV and HomePod Mini devices featuring the Proxima chip.

These advancements reflect Apple’s commitment to building an interconnected and privacy-focused smart home ecosystem.

Apple’s Face ID-enabled doorbell camera signals a focused push into the smart home market, blending cutting-edge technology with privacy and security.

If successfully executed, this device could redefine home security standards and challenge competitors dominating the space.

As development progresses, industry observers and Apple enthusiasts will closely follow updates on these innovative projects.
