Apple has announced that its mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, will receive Apple Intelligence features as part of the visionOS 2.4 update, set for release in April.
The update will introduce AI-driven enhancements, a new Spatial Gallery app, and a Guest User mode, aiming to expand functionality and improve user experience.
AI-Driven Features and Expanded Capabilities
The integration of Apple Intelligence will bring several new tools to Vision Pro, including Writing Tools with ChatGPT integration, Image Playground as a standalone Vision Pro app, and Genmoji.
Writing Tools will allow users to proofread, rewrite, and summarize text within apps like Mail and Notes, while ChatGPT support will assist in composing text from scratch.
Image Playground will provide AI-powered customization for generating creative visuals, and Genmoji will enable users to create personalized emojis from text descriptions.
Initially, these AI features will be available only to users who have set their device language to English (US), with a broader rollout expected in the future.
Additionally, AI-powered improvements will extend across Apple’s ecosystem, including Smart Reply in Mail and Messages, Memory Movies in the Photos app, and notification summaries.
Introduction of Spatial Gallery
The visionOS 2.4 update will also introduce Spatial Gallery, a dedicated app designed to showcase spatial photos, videos, panoramas, and curated immersive experiences.
Content will span categories such as art, culture, entertainment, sports, and travel, with contributions from filmmakers, brands, and artists.
Featured experiences will include behind-the-scenes content from Apple Originals and collaborations with organizations such as Cirque du Soleil, Red Bull, and Porsche.
Spatial Gallery is intended to highlight Vision Pro’s display technology by offering high-quality, immersive content. Apple has confirmed that new material will be added regularly, making the app an evolving platform for spatial media.
Enhanced Guest User Mode
Another key addition in visionOS 2.4 is Guest User mode, allowing Vision Pro owners to share their device with others. While this will not serve as a full multi-user system, it will enable guests to save their eye and hand setup for up to 30 days, reducing the need for repeated configuration.
Users will be able to initiate Guest User mode from their iPhone or iPad and select specific apps that will be accessible during a session.
This update improves the practicality of sharing Vision Pro while maintaining personalized settings for different users.
iPhone Integration for Vision Pro Management
Apple is also introducing a dedicated Vision Pro app for iPhone as part of the iOS 18.4 update. This app will allow users to remotely manage their Vision Pro, including downloading and organizing apps, browsing content recommendations, and handling software updates.
The app will feature a Discover page with curated suggestions for Vision Pro users, including popular spatial experiences and exclusive Apple Immersive titles. This update is aimed at streamlining device management and making navigation more intuitive.
Privacy and On-Device AI Processing
Apple has emphasized privacy in its AI implementation, stating that Apple Intelligence will process data on-device whenever possible.
For more complex AI tasks, Private Cloud Compute will handle processing securely, without storing or sharing user data.
Apple also allows independent security researchers to review the code running on its servers to ensure transparency and security compliance.
Availability and Future Enhancements
Apple has confirmed that visionOS 2.4 will launch in April, with Apple Intelligence features initially available in select regions, including the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, the UAE, and the UK. A broader release is expected over time.
