Gemini Live Gains Google Calendar, Maps, and Tasks Integration in Global Rollout

Google has begun rolling out a major upgrade to Gemini Live, its real-time, two-way voice assistant, enabling direct integration with Google Calendar, Maps, and Tasks.

    Highlights

    • Global Rollout: Gemini Live’s new integration with Google Calendar, Maps, and Tasks is now available to both free and paid Android and iOS users.
    • From Voice to Productivity: The assistant can now schedule events, create reminders, and provide directions without leaving the chat interface.
    • Seamless App Connections: Commands like “Find me a route to the airport” or “Add a meeting to my Calendar” trigger instant in-chat results with quick-open previews.
    • Enhanced User Experience: Features include Undo options for actions, loading indicators, and compact result previews.
    • Recent Improvements: Builds on last month’s addition of real-time captions for easier reading during conversations.
    • Multimodal Abilities: With Project Astra, Gemini Live can use the camera and screen sharing for visual interactions, like scanning a flyer to create calendar events.
    • Longer Engagement: Google reports sessions with these features last up to five times longer than basic chats.
    • Cross-Platform Reach: On Samsung devices, integration also works with native apps like Calendar, Notes, and Reminders.

First announced at Google I/O in May and tested with a limited user group in June, the feature is now available to both free and paid users on Android and iOS.

The update transforms Gemini Live from a purely conversational assistant into a practical productivity tool — capable of scheduling events, creating reminders, and providing directions without leaving the chat interface.

Clues about this integration first appeared in May, when code within the Google app suggested that Calendar, Maps, and Tasks connectivity was in development. After a brief testing phase, the feature is now accessible to all users worldwide.

    How the Integration Works

When users make a request that requires Calendar, Maps, or Tasks, Gemini Live connects to the relevant app in the background and returns results directly in the conversation. Commands like “Find me a route to the airport in Google Maps” or “Add a meeting to my Calendar” work instantly.

A small icon signals when an app connection is active, and results appear in a compact preview box. Tapping the box opens the corresponding app for full details.

This rollout follows last month’s addition of real-time captions to Gemini Live, allowing responses to be read while the assistant speaks. Captions also auto-enable when the device is muted or set to low volume.

    Multimodal Capabilities

Gemini Live is evolving into a more immersive assistant, incorporating live camera and screen-sharing features (via Project Astra) for visual interactions. Users can, for example, point their camera at a flyer to extract dates and instantly create calendar events.

According to Google, sessions with Gemini Live that include features like app integration and visual input lead to richer, longer interactions — up to five times longer than standard text-based chats.

The integration extends beyond Google’s ecosystem. On Samsung devices, Gemini Live can also interact with native apps like Calendar, Notes, and Reminders.

Practical design touches include an Undo option for actions like task creation and visible loading indicators for real-time feedback.
