Google’s next mid-range smartphone, the Pixel 9a, is inching closer to its debut following a recent appearance on the EMVCo certification website.

The listing has sparked interest among tech enthusiasts and fueled speculation about its imminent launch and potential features.

    Details from Certification

The EMVCo listing, dated January 31, identifies a device with the model number GTF7P. Though the listing does not explicitly name the Pixel 9a, strong clues suggest it is indeed Google’s upcoming release.

Reports indicate the smartphone will run on Android 15 out of the box, making it one of the first to launch with the new operating system ahead of Android 16’s scheduled release in mid-2025.

    Expected Early Launch Timeline

Previous leaks suggest that Google may unveil the Pixel 9a as early as March 2025, marking a shift from its traditional product launches around the Google I/O event in May.

If true, this would be an unprecedented move for the company, potentially offering users a sneak peek at its latest innovations ahead of schedule.

    Specifications Rumored

The Pixel 9a is shaping up to be a strong contender in the mid-range market, with reports hinting at impressive hardware and design improvements:

    • Display: A 6.3-inch Actua display with a peak brightness of 2,700 nits, protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
    • Performance: Powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chipset, paired with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB internal storage, ensuring smooth multitasking and robust performance.
    • Durability: IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

    Enhanced Camera and Battery Features

Camera performance has always been a hallmark of the Pixel series, and the Pixel 9a appears to maintain this focus:

    • Rear Cameras: A 48MP primary camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens, promising versatile shooting options.
    • Front Camera: A 13MP sensor for high-quality selfies and video calls.
    • Battery: A 5,100mAh battery with support for 23W wired and 7.5W wireless charging, providing extended usage and faster charging.

    Pre-Booking and Pricing Speculations

According to recent leaks, pre-booking for the Pixel 9a may start on March 19, with shipments commencing on March 26. In the US, the 128GB model is expected to retail for $499 (approximately Rs 43,200), while the 256GB variant may cost $599 (approximately Rs 51,900).

A special mmWave model from Verizon may carry an additional $50 premium (around Rs 4,300). Indian prices are yet to be confirmed, but they may align with the Pixel 8a’s previous pricing of Rs 52,999 for the 128GB version and Rs 59,999 for the 256GB variant.

If Google delivers on these rumored features, the Pixel 9a could solidify its position as a powerful yet reasonably priced option in the competitive mid-range segment.

Its blend of performance, camera capabilities, and software enhancements may attract users looking for a premium experience without the flagship price tag.
