While most headline features arrived in earlier betas, Beta 6 brings a mix of refinements, visual polish, and a few new surprises — including fresh ringtones, improved performance, and the resolution of the Camera app’s swipe gesture debate.
New Ringtones
This build adds six new ringtones, all based on variations of the “Reflection” tone. Among early testers, tracks like “Dreamer” have received positive feedback for their richer sound profiles, with some suggesting the additions could encourage more users to keep devices out of silent mode.
Camera Gesture Finalization
One of the more debated changes from earlier betas involved the Camera app’s mode switcher gesture. Apple had initially reversed the swipe direction, prompting criticism from long-time users. Beta 5 introduced a toggle to restore the original behavior.
In Beta 6, Apple has removed that toggle and reinstated the classic swipe direction as the default, standardizing the experience for all users.
Performance and Interface Updates
System responsiveness sees notable improvements in this release. App launches feel faster, transitions are smoother, and animations have been refined across the interface.
The ongoing “Liquid Glass” redesign — Apple’s layered, translucent UI style — receives adjustments for better readability, enhanced color dispersion in app navigation, and updated effects for Lock Screen elements and toggles.
Beta 6 also debuts a refreshed onboarding process after installation, guiding users through key iOS 26 updates, such as redesigned icons, new layouts in select apps, and customization options.
Hidden and Notable Features
- Live Translation with AirPods
Users can now trigger real-time translation via the Translate app by double-tapping on compatible AirPods (e.g., AirPods Pro 2). This Apple Intelligence–powered feature works with multiple languages and is positioned as a travel convenience, comparable to similar tools from competitors. - Conversational Search in Apple Maps
A new “Search the Way You Talk” capability allows natural-language queries such as “find cafes with free Wi-Fi,” aiming to improve navigation usability. While results may still vary in accuracy, it reflects Apple’s ongoing integration of AI into everyday tasks. - Expanded Lock Screen Customization
Beta 6 continues to expand personalization options, including dynamic weather and astronomy wallpapers, adjustable shortcuts, and spatial scene effects. These updates narrow the feature gap with Android while maintaining Apple’s design approach. - Privacy-Safe Nudity Detection in FaceTime
FaceTime now automatically pauses video feeds if nudity is detected, particularly for child accounts, and prompts the user before resuming. The detection process occurs entirely on-device to preserve user privacy.
As with any beta, this build includes bug fixes alongside new features. Apple maybe entering the final optimization phase before launch. Public beta users can expect a corresponding update soon.
