Microsoft is extending its AI-powered features, previously exclusive to Snapdragon X series chipsets, to Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs.

    Highlights

Expanded AI Capabilities: Microsoft is extending AI-powered features (Live Captions, Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator) to Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs, which were previously limited to Snapdragon-based devices.
Phased Rollout Strategy: The new features will be introduced in the March 2025 Windows non-security preview update, followed by a gradual rollout via Windows Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR) for broader deployment.
Processor Eligibility: Only PCs with Intel Core Ultra 200V Series and AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series, equipped with advanced AI accelerators, will receive the update—while older or less powerful processors are excluded.
Enhanced User Experience: AI tools like Live Captions and Cocreator aim to boost productivity, improve content creation, and optimize system performance, enhancing the overall Windows 11 experience.
Future Industry Impact: This expansion is part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to standardize AI across its ecosystem, potentially influencing future hardware optimizations from Intel and AMD.

The update introduces tools such as Live Captions, Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator, expanding AI capabilities for a broader range of Windows 11 users.

    Phased Rollout and Update Timeline

According to Microsoft, the rollout will be part of the March 2025 Windows non-security preview update, with a gradual release through the Windows Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR) system.

This marks a shift from Microsoft’s initial approach, where Copilot-centric AI tools were limited to Snapdragon-powered devices.

To ensure stability, Microsoft is implementing a phased rollout strategy:

    • March 2025 Windows Non-Security Preview Update – Early adopters will receive the AI features as part of this update.
    • Windows Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR) – A wider deployment will follow, allowing Microsoft to monitor performance and address issues before a full release.

New AI Features for Intel and AMD-Powered Copilot+ PCs

The update brings several AI-driven enhancements to Intel and AMD-based Copilot+ PCs:

    • Live Captions – Provides real-time English translations for audio and video, benefiting virtual meetings, podcasts, and media playback.
    • Cocreator (Paint App) – Transforms basic sketches into detailed artwork, allowing users to adjust creativity levels.
    • Restyle Image (Photos App) – Applies artistic effects to images, enhancing photo-editing capabilities.
    • Image Creator – A text-to-image generator that creates visuals based on user prompts.

Processor Eligibility for AI Feature Expansion

Microsoft’s AI feature expansion applies to specific processors capable of handling AI workloads. Eligible devices must be equipped with advanced AI accelerators or Neural Processing Units (NPUs). The supported processors include:

    • AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series – Integrated AI accelerators designed for efficient AI-driven tasks.
    • Intel Core Ultra 200V Series – Equipped with NPUs to support complex AI computations.

However, certain processors do not meet the requirements for this update. For example, devices with Intel’s Core Ultra 200U series and AMD’s Ryzen 200 series are not included, as they lack the necessary AI acceleration capabilities.

Additional Features for Snapdragon-Powered Copilot+ PCs

While Intel and AMD users are gaining new AI tools, Snapdragon X series-powered Copilot+ PCs are receiving additional enhancements:

    • Voice Access Improvements – Enables more natural and flexible voice commands, simplifying interactions.
    • Microsoft has confirmed that these enhancements will be extended to Intel and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs later this year.
