Nothing has launched its latest software update, Nothing OS 3.0, featuring the AI-powered “Circle to Search” tool.

This feature redefines how users interact with their devices, providing an intuitive way to perform web searches, translations, and text extraction tasks.

The update is rolling out to Nothing Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus models, with each device receiving tailored improvements.

    Circle to Search

Circle to Search utilizes AI to create a seamless, gesture-driven interaction. Users can draw a circle, scribble, or highlight objects and text on their screens to activate various functions, such as searching the web, translating languages, or copying content.

This feature eliminates the need for traditional menus and buttons, offering a direct and efficient interface.

Unlike conventional tools like Google Lens, Circle to Search integrates deeply with Nothing OS 3.0, reflecting the brand’s minimalist and user-focused philosophy.

    Device Compatibility and Rollout

The Nothing OS 3.0 update brings Android 15 to Nothing’s smartphone lineup, with availability as follows:

    • Nothing Phone (2): Stable update with build number Pong-V3.0-241207-0124.
    • Nothing Phone (2a): Stable update with build number Pacman-V3.0-241210-2057.
    • Nothing Phone (2a) Plus: Open Beta 1 available with build number PacmanPro-V3.0-241126-1448.

The phased rollout ensures stability and optimal performance for each device. Notably, the Phone (2a) Plus supports Circle to Search even in its beta phase, demonstrating the adaptability of this advanced feature.

    Features of Circle to Search

    1. Simplified Navigation:
Users can access Circle to Search via different navigation modes:
      • Pressing the home button in three-button navigation.
      • Long-pressing the navigation bar in gesture-based systems.
    2. Real-World Applications:
      • Product Identification: Highlight items in text for quick web searches or shopping options.
      • Instant Translations: Select foreign text to receive immediate translations.
      • Music Recognition: Identify songs playing in the background with a simple gesture.
    3. Enhanced Display Interaction:
The feature leverages the Phone (2a) Plus’s Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support, ensuring smooth and visually rich experiences.

    Gesture-Based AI

Circle to Search stands out as a significant innovation in gesture-based navigation. Beyond circling, users can scribble or highlight to trigger advanced searches or extract text for translation and copying. This flexibility reduces reliance on multiple apps and offers a more streamlined interaction.

    Software Integration and AI-Driven Personalization

The feature benefits from Nothing OS 3.0’s clean, bloatware-free environment. Key integrations include:

    • Multisearch Capabilities: Leveraging Google AI in select regions, the tool can provide comprehensive overviews and follow-up insights, such as detailed ingredient lists or product availability.
    • AI-Powered Customization: Users can generate personalized wallpapers and access experimental features that enhance device usability.

With three years of Android updates and four years of security patches promised, Nothing ensures long-term support for its user base.
