Apple’s Upcoming iPhone SE 4 Expected to Launch as the iPhone 16E

Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone SE 4, which has been the subject of numerous rumors in recent months, may be marketed under a new name.

Leaks suggest that Apple could launch the device as the iPhone 16E, positioning it as part of the iPhone 16 family. This would place it alongside models such as the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The potential name change indicates that Apple may see the iPhone SE 4 not just as a budget-friendly alternative, but as a more integral part of its standard iPhone lineup.

    The Rumored iPhone 16E Name

One of the most intriguing aspects of the iPhone SE 4 is its rumoured name change to iPhone 16E. Tipster Majin Bu shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the upcoming iPhone model would be called the iPhone 16E, aligning it with Apple’s current iPhone 16 naming conventions.

Historically, the iPhone SE series has been known for its more affordable price point and a blend of older and newer features.

The shift to iPhone 16E could signal a more integrated position within Apple’s portfolio, targeting users who want a premium experience without the higher price of the iPhone Pro models.

This isn’t the first time the name “iPhone 16E” has surfaced. In December, a Weibo post from tipster Fixed Focus Digital also mentioned the name, suggesting a potential change for the SE phone.

The post even included case renders of the device, showing a design based on the iPhone 14. The case suggests a cutout for the camera at the top left corner of the rear panel, offering a glimpse into the device’s design.

    Specifications and Features

The iPhone 16E is expected to offer an impressive set of features, including the A18 chipset, which would bring support for Apple’s advanced AI-driven features. This would make the iPhone 16E the most powerful SE model yet, offering better performance and efficiency than previous models.

    Display and Battery

The iPhone 16E is rumoured to feature a 6.06-inch LTPS OLED display (1,170×2,532 pixels) with a peak brightness of 800 nits, providing an immersive visual experience. The device is expected to be equipped with a 3,279mAh battery, ensuring a longer battery life.

    Camera

Apple is reportedly enhancing the iPhone 16E’s camera system. It is expected to include a 48-megapixel rear camera, a significant upgrade from the 12-megapixel camera found in previous models. This should offer better low-light performance and sharper details.

The front camera is also rumored to be upgraded to a 12-megapixel sensor, perfect for selfies and FaceTime calls.

    Additional Features

    • 8GB of RAM: A significant increase compared to previous models, allowing for better multitasking and overall performance.
    • Face ID: The iPhone 16E will support Apple’s facial recognition technology, providing enhanced security and convenience.

    Pricing and Availability

While Apple has not officially confirmed a release date, the iPhone 16E is expected to launch in March 2024.

Pricing is expected to remain competitive, with the device likely to retail for under $500, making it an attractive option for users seeking the latest Apple features without the premium price tag.

In South Korea, the price could exceed KRW 8,00,000, reflecting local pricing trends.

    Major Design Overhaul

The iPhone SE 4 (or iPhone 16E) is expected to mark a significant design shift. Unlike its predecessor, the iPhone SE (3rd generation), which retained the older design with thick bezels and a home button, the iPhone 16E is likely to feature a more modern design, inspired by the iPhone 14.

Leaks suggest it will adopt an all-display design, with Face ID replacing the home button and Touch ID, as well as a larger 6.1-inch OLED display.

The device will likely feature slim bezels and a notch at the top, replacing the older 4.7-inch LCD screen.

    Performance Boost with A18 Chipset

The iPhone 16E will feature Apple’s latest A18 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM, ensuring better performance, smoother multitasking, and support for AI-driven features like Apple Intelligence.

These upgrades bring the iPhone 16E on par with the iPhone 16 series in terms of performance, making it an appealing option for users who want advanced features without the higher price of the Pro models.

USB-C Charging Port and EU Regulation Compliance

In response to EU regulations, the iPhone 16E is expected to replace the Lightning port with a USB-C port, aligning it with Apple’s other devices like the iPad and MacBook.

This change will allow users to charge their devices with the same cable, increasing convenience and making the device more universal.

    Apple’s In-House Modem and 5G Support

The iPhone 16E will reportedly debut Apple’s in-house modem, codenamed Centauri, which will provide 5G support, as well as improved Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS functionality.

This move is part of Apple’s broader strategy to reduce reliance on third-party suppliers, such as Qualcomm, for critical components.

    Affordable Premium Experience

Despite the array of premium features, Apple is expected to keep the iPhone 16E priced competitively.

Starting at approximately $429, the device offers a premium experience with advanced specs, including the A18 chip, 48MP camera, and AI-driven features, making it an affordable option for users seeking cutting-edge technology.

The iPhone 16E marks a shift in Apple’s approach to the iPhone SE lineup. While past SE models have been known for their affordability and legacy design, the iPhone 16E will integrate premium features such as a larger OLED display, a more powerful chipset, and an improved camera system.
