Google is piloting a feature called Daily Listen, which converts your Discover feed into a curated, AI-powered podcast experience.

Designed for users on the go, this feature offers personalized audio summaries of topics you follow, accessible directly through the Google app on Android and iOS.

    A Tailored Audio Experience

Daily Listen delivers podcast-style episodes lasting up to five minutes, summarizing news and updates based on your Discover feed preferences.

Each episode is accompanied by clickable links to related stories, making it easy for users to dive deeper into topics of interest.

How to Enable and Access Daily Listen

Users in the U.S. participating in Google’s Search Labs can explore this new feature. To enable it:

    1. Open the Google app on Android or iOS.
    2. Go to the Search Labs section by clicking the triangular beaker icon.
    3. Enable the Daily Listen experiment.
    4. Look for the “Made for you” card in the Space carousel under the Search bar.

Once activated, users will see a Daily Listen section on the app’s home screen, complete with a play button and episode duration. The feature allows instant playback of personalized audio updates.

    Features of Daily Listen

Daily Listen integrates several advanced functionalities to enhance user experience:

    • Audio and Transcript Integration: Listen to summaries while following along with a rolling transcript.
    • Personalization: The content aligns with topics you follow on Discover and Search, ensuring relevance.
    • Interactive Controls: Users can pause, rewind, skip, or mute audio, with an intuitive scrubber for revisiting specific segments.
    • Feedback and Customization: Thumbs-up or thumbs-down options help refine the algorithm for improved content curation.

Users can also explore related stories via the “Related Stories” tab, ensuring a dynamic and engaging feed.

    Inspired by NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews

Daily Listen draws inspiration from Google’s NotebookLM, a tool that transforms user-provided materials into AI-generated podcasts.

While NotebookLM allows interactive AI-hosted discussions, Daily Listen simplifies this concept by providing concise, automated summaries. The streamlined approach could evolve in the future to include interactive features.

    Visual and Functional Enhancements

The feature includes visually engaging elements, such as cover art and transcripts, displayed prominently under the “Made for you” label in the Space carousel. This thoughtful design ensures seamless access for users.

    Early Rollout and Global Potential

Currently available to U.S. users through Search Labs, Daily Listen is still in its experimental phase. Google’s iterative testing model suggests that a global rollout could follow, depending on feedback and demand.

    AI in Everyday Learning

Daily Listen showcases Google’s commitment to integrating AI into everyday activities, redefining content consumption through personalized, accessible audio.

By blending convenience with hyper-personalization, the feature aligns with recent advancements in AI-powered tools, making it a significant step forward in digital media interaction.
